The International Economic Association (IEA) invites economic associations, universities, research institutions, and eligible partners to propose their city and country as the host of the IEA World Congress 2029. The IEA World Congress is one of the world’s leading gatherings of economists. It brings together Nobel Laureates in Economic Sciences, leading economists, policymakers, and emerging scholars from around the world to present their latest research, exchange ideas, and connect with the next generation of economists.

The IEA will work closely with the host to deliver a world-class Congress, with the scientific programme led by the IEA and the host contributing through active participation in the Programme Committee. The Congress will showcase leading economists from around the world, foster lasting international networks, and elevate the host city and country as a global hub for economic thought, research, and policy dialogue.

KEY DATES

• 30 November 2026: Submission of Letter of Interest
  Signed by the President or Secretary General of an economic association, by the Head of Department/Institution, or by a person duly authorized to act on its behalf.
• 30 May 2027: Submission of Full Proposal including:
• Membership of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC)
• Proposed venue and accommodation
• Budget and financing plan
• Experience hosting comparable international events
• List of Institutional Support — leading national and regional institutions, including ministries, central banks, business associations, and other relevant institutions.

• June 2027: Shortlist Announced (2–3 potential organizers selected)
• July 2027: Virtual Meetings with selected potential organizers
• July 2027: Announcement of Selected Host Institution and Country, followed by IEA representatives’ site visits.
